13.8 SUNSCREENS AND CAMOUFLAGERS

13.8 Sunscreens and Camouflagers


        13.8.1 Sunscreen preparations
            All the sunscreens listed contain UVB and UVA protection. They are drugs when prescribed for skin protection against 
            ultraviolet radiation in abnormal cutaneous photosensitivity. Need to be endorsed 'ACBS' on FP10 prescription.

            GREEN      Uvistat®cream (UVB-SPF 30)Uvistat®cream (UVB-SPF 50) 
            GREEN       Anthelios® Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50+

            RED           P20 SPF 50 spray
 
            Sunscreen/ camouflagers 
            A combination product suitable for patients with darker skin tones which is available from Dundee Hospital only.
            RED            Dundee Cream (UVB-SPF 50)   
 
            Photodamage 
            GREEN        Diclofenac sodium 3% gel (Solaraze®) - prescribe by brand 
            GREEN        Fluorouracil 5% cream (Efudix®)  - for actinic keratosis 
            GREEN        Fluorouracil 5% cream (Efudix®) - for Bowen's disease by prescribers who consider themselves competent to
                                 diagnose and treat the condition or following recommendation to prescribe by dermatology specialist.
            RED             Fluorouracil 5% cream (Efudix®) - for small superficial basal-cell carcinoma
            GREEN        Fluorouracil 5% Cream (Efudix®) - Topical treatment of superficial pre-malignant skin lesions*
             * Prescribers should refer patients with skin lesions suggestive of skin cancers using the principles of the NICE suspected 
             cancer guideline. Patients should be counselled in full on the correct use of fluorouracil 5% cream, its risks and side effects.

             Due to genotoxic potential of fluorouracil, counselling is vital for females and males regarding contraception, fertility,
             pregnancy and breast feeding [see SPC for further details]

            AMBER       Imiquimod 5% cream (Aldara®) - (actinic keratosis and external  genital warts ) 
            GREEN        Tirbanibulin ointment (Klisyri®) - for non-hyperkeratotic, non-hypertrophic actinic keratosis (Olsen grade 1) of 
                                 the face or scalp in adults.  See Prescribing Guidance

            AMBER           Medical Camouflaging Products [See Position Statement]
             Medical camouflaging products must only be initiated by a healthcare professional that specialises in skin colour matching 
             and appropriate application techniques.
            NB: Medical camouflaging products must only be continued in primary care if the patient’s GP believes issuing such a 
                   prescription will continue to significantly reduce the impact of the patient’s medical condition.
